Vision and Hope

When this occurred to me, the vision was not full.  It was just seeing a need and wanting to meet it.  More and more girls were not going to formals, "with a it's stupid" on their lips.  Yet, what I really saw was "my family can't afford that kind of thing".  With the cost of dresses and all the hoopla it is understandable.  After watching all of the Jr High tumble out of their formal I was amazed at just how formal it really was and what a divide was created.
 It hurt my heart to see these kids separated by money.  That they felt "not good enough", it was in the slump of their shoulders and downcast head.  I can understand why they would not want to go back.  Then I thought about how that was going to effect their life.  These are such formidable years.  They needed to see they were worthy, and lovely based on who they are and not how expensive their dress is.

Days, weeks, later I stumbled upon formal wear at a steal of a price.  I bought them, not sure why but knew they could be given away to someone.  Then talking with other women who had struggled with that in high school it became even more "right" that we do something.   Resembling the fairy godmother in Cinderella the idea was hatched!  We could gather, and encourage others to let go of unused dresses to bring joy and beauty into young lives.  My heart is full of joy!!  It is embraced and I do hope all of you will continue to spread the word.

I soooo want it to grow and be established in this town that we are able to reach other towns as well.  Hope fully find a small place in downtown Shelton to have the dresses and accessories and be available to receive donations and help the girls.  Maybe have classes on how to make a simple clutch purse or make some jewelry or simple up-do's with the help of other Shelton businesses.  It really could be a community loving community thing.

Imagine just for a moment all of these young women, being cared about, encouraged,and seeking good things in their life.  How would that really beautify Shelton?  In the generations to come?  In the right now?
                                   Come  and join us and be a part of "the village" and love these women.

Twirl

Do remember when you were little and your favorite thing to do was twirl?  A simple thing brought such joy to your heart.  It's our desire as women to be lovely, captivating and to twirl.

As we get older and the world mocks us and steals our joy and our twirl, we start looking down.  We have lost our sparkle.  A few years back I was in the dressing room listening to another mom trying to get her daughter to put on a dress.  I saw the girl, shoulders slumped head down, she had lost her sparkle.  It was sad and I wanted to run to her and tell her how lovely she truly was.  I looked at my own daughter who was trying on a dress as well, head down not wanting to look at her reflection.  I told her "twirl"..."what?" came out of a confused expression.  I repeated "twirl" and she did.  "Now look at yourself and twirl" and then with her hair flowing and dress spinning and picking up glints of light she saw.  She was lovely and joy filled her heart.  My heart was captivated and I brush back a tear before she saw.

How can something so simple change your outlook?  Why does simply spinning make you smile?

We are women, we were made for beauty, not the kind the world tells you.  But the kind that comes from being who you are and seeing the value of that.  Every girl truly needs to be in a beautiful dress and just twirl.

Forest Festival Parade 2011

This is Shelton

We are a logging town and have been so for over a hundred years.

We are small compared to some towns but big compared to others.

I think we are just right

We also have sightings once in awhile of the local favorites. 

But this is the weekend of the Forest Festival!!

Parade, logging competition and then fireworks tonight and car show tomorrow.

I was already and then my camera died.  I had forgotten to charge it.

The best part of the parade is the faces of those watching it. 

These guys are always great to keep us entertained until the parade starts.

I really had to restrain myself from buying the hat. 

Oh, back to the show, sorry got distracted :) 

Ice cream?!?!?! of course!!  Look at that blue sky, it was made for eating ice cream. 

There were all sorts of colorful characters. 

Nothing more precious than a little girl blowing bubbles. 

Honoring those who have done so much for this country and all who live in it. 

This guy is Paul Bunyan, well he won the title.  My camera died before I could get the Forest Queens. 

Shelton is an awesome place to live and filled with so many amazing people.  I heart them all.

My goal for next year is to be established enough to join them in the parade with some of the beautiful girls we may be able to help.  It will sparkle and shine and be fun.

I really do hope to become part of a permanent fixture to help the community.

Our Mission and Our Heart

Ok, let's start with the BIG IDEA and how it might happen.
 I see far to many girls in my town that lack sparkle, they don't get to be Cinderella for the night.  They struggle with the price of formal dresses, even used ones are more than they can hope for.  I saw a problem and then I saw a solution.  I am a natural gatherer, a bargain hunter and I started buying formal dresses to give them to these girls.  I have given away two so far but want to reach more girls and in order to help them I need more dresses.
 What I also know, for those who can afford formal dresses they don't care to wear them every year.  I am sooooo hoping they would be willing to donate their dress to help someone else.  The best way to make that happen is word of mouth.  This is my mouth giving the word,...the word is "Please Help".  Ok, that was words.
